Winners of the third edition of the competition designed for children and young adults

The third edition of the Creative Imagination competition organised by the ‘Read. Dream. Create’ campaign by the UAE Board on Books for Young People (UAEBBY), saw tough competition this year with 90 entries sent to its two categories of creative writing and silent books.
A group of exceptional young Arab creatives in the UAE have been recognised in this talent hunt, and awarded a host of attractive prizes for winning the contest, which is designed to spark creativity as well as literary and artistic engagement among children and young adults in the 6 – 18 years age group.
The young winners found out in an unexpected way when Meera Al Naqbi, Public Relations Executive at the UAEBBY, entered their online classrooms to make a surprise announcement.
In the creative writing category, Nojoud Ali Al Badwawi’s story ‘Remains of a Country’ won the AED 5,000 first prize, who will also will receive a collection of selected books as well as the opportunity to meet a renowned children’s book author to benefit from his/her experiences in the literary field. Nojoud will also be invited to attend all future workshops hosted by the UAEBBY.
Saif Ali Al Mansouri’s story ‘Saif Creates Rashid’ scooped the second prize of AED 3,000, followed by Shadin Maher Al Hawari’s story ‘The Rainbow’ which secured third place with a cash prize of AED 1,000. The winners of the second and third prizes will be presented certificates of appreciation, as well as a collection of valuable books.
In the silent book category, Ayah Muhammad Al Qubaisi’s ‘The Boy’ won the AED 5,000 first prize.
Meera Al Naqbi, Public Relations Executive at the UAEBBY said: “The UAEBBY continues to nurture talents of young generations, encouraging them to ignite their imagination and unleash their creativity. The winners of this competition have highlighted incredible amount of literary and artistic talent possessed by the UAE’s children and young adults. Their works are strongly indicative of a promising future for Arab literature and art.”
“We announced the winners remotely, in line with our dedication to following the UAE’s safety measures in light of the coronavirus. As part of the UAE’s well-integrated social system, we are keen on furthering our role in raising awareness in younger generations on the importance of physical distancing, and at the same time, leverage latest technologies to boost creativity,” she added.

Launched in 2013 by the UAEBBY, the ‘Read. Dream. Create’ campaign aims to bring children and books together. It also aims to encourage children and young people to read, innovate and create, as well as develop their writing skills and transform their ideas into engaging, well-written stories. The campaign aims to help develop a better understanding of the needs of Arab children in the field of children’s literature.
